2024年國際會議美國聖地亞哥見!
The International Conference for Children of Deaf Adults (CODA) in 2023, hosted by South Korea, was successfully held from June 29th to July 2nd (Hong Kong time) for four consecutive days.
This is the first time that an Asian country, South Korea, has hosted the international CODA conference. Throughout the conference, not only American Sign Language but also Korean Sign Language was used as the primary means of communication. Participants not only came from Europe and America, but also from Asian countries such as Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, India, and Malaysia, recognizing the importance of this milestone in development. CODA Hong Kong also received international recognition and was awarded for their service contributions.
Four Hong Kong representatives from CODA participated in the conference and had the chance to interact and connect with 151 CODAs from 22 countries around the world. Most of them are active in contributing to the deaf community, including professionals in counseling, research, sign language interpretation, and passionate advocates for their CODA identity. They deeply appreciated the solidarity and resonance of being with fellow CODAs, which greatly enhanced their sense of identity, cultural and linguistic knowledge, and balanced their psychological well-being, enabling them to embrace and accept themselves as well as contribute to the community.
Finally, heartfelt thanks were extended to the organizers of the conference and the kind support of CODAs from around the world for helping to celebrate CODAHK's 10th anniversary and Deaf Children's Day with a charity sale that raised approximately HKD 3,395 (USD 435) after deducting costs, truly demonstrating the spirit of mutual assistance among fellow travelers.
See you in San Diego for the international conference in 2024!
